Go to the Temple for Initiatories!
Prepare a Family Name, Visit the Temple, and Participate in Sacred Ordinances for Your Ancestors
Have you ever wanted to participate in initiatory ordinances for your ancestors but weren't sure how to prepare a name or what to bring to the temple? FamilySearch can help you find eligible names, prepare the necessary information, and take the next step toward temple service.
Initiatory ordinances are sacred preparatory ordinances performed in the temple. Worthy members who have received their own initiatory ordinances and endowment may participate in these ordinances on behalf of deceased individuals.
This month's invitation is simple: Use Ordinances Ready to find an initiatory opportunity, prepare your ordinance information, and attend the temple to perform initiatory ordinances for an ancestor.
If you're not yet eligible to perform initiatory ordinances, you can still learn how the process works and prepare for future temple service.
Three Easy Steps:
Find an Initiatory Name
Find the Ordinances Ready feature and select Initiatory as the ordinance type. FamilySearch will search for available opportunities based on your account, family connections, and the temple reservation system.
Prepare Your Card
Depending on your device and the available options, you may be able to print a Family Ordinance Request or ordinance card. If you're using the Family Tree mobile app, you may also have the option to save a QR code to your phone.
Attend the Temple
Bring your current temple recommend and the ordinance information required for your visit. Temple workers can help you. As you participate, remember that the name you carry represents a real person with a life, a family, and an eternal identity.
Did you know? Initiatory ordinances are sacred temple ordinances associated with preparation for the endowment. Members who are eligible to perform proxy initiatory ordinances can participate in this work on behalf of deceased individuals.
Ordinances Ready makes finding eligible ordinance opportunities easier by searching FamilySearch's available temple reservations. You may discover a name connected to your own family or an eligible name shared through the temple system.
Remember: Temple and family history work isn't about completing the greatest number of ordinances or collecting the longest list of names. It's about remembering our ancestors and participating reverently in the sacred work of connecting families for eternity.
If you're able to attend the temple, take time to prepare spiritually as well as practically. If you're unable to attend right now, you can still explore FamilySearch, learn about your ancestors, and prepare for a future opportunity.
One name. One temple visit. One eternal connection.
