Prepare a Name for the Temple!
Learn How to Reserve and Share Family Names for Temple Ordinances
Did you know that FamilySearch can help you identify ancestors who may need temple ordinances, reserve those ordinances, and even share reservations with the temple so others can help complete the work?
You don't have to be an experienced family historian or have a long list of ancestors ready. FamilySearch provides tools that make the process easier, and you can begin with just one name.
This month's invitation is simple: Learn how to find, reserve, and share one family name for temple ordinances.
Whether you're preparing to attend the temple yourself or helping make ordinances available for others, each small effort can help connect families for eternity.
Three Easy Steps:
FIND a Family Name
Sign in to FamilySearch and open your Family Tree. Look for an ancestor with temple ordinances that may be available. You can also use Ordinances Ready to help find available ordinance opportunities. Check the person's information and follow FamilySearch's guidance.
RESERVE a Temple Ordinance
Open the ancestor's Ordinances section and review the available ordinances. If an ordinance is available to request, follow the prompts to reserve it. FamilySearch may ask you to confirm information or obtain permission before completing a reservation. Review those instructions carefully.
SHARE a Name with the Temple
Open your temple reservations in FamilySearch and select the reservation you would like to share. If the Share with Temple option is available, follow the prompts to share the reservation with the temple system, where it may be made available for another temple patron to complete.
Did you know? FamilySearch allows eligible Church members to reserve temple ordinances for deceased ancestors and, when the option is available, share those reservations with the temple. This means that even when you cannot personally attend the temple to complete every ordinance, you may still be able to help make that work available to others.
FamilySearch also helps prevent duplicate ordinance work and provides instructions about family relationships, eligibility, and permission requirements.
Remember: The purpose of family history work is not simply to collect names or build the largest family tree. It is to discover our ancestors, learn about their lives, and help connect families through sacred temple ordinances.
You don't need to prepare dozens of names. Begin with one ancestor, review the available information, and learn how the reservation process works. And if you don't have a name ready to reserve, that's okay! Learning how to use the tools is a meaningful first step.
One name. One reservation. One opportunity to serve.
